How do I qualify for Mensa membership? Is there a specific Mensa IQ Test?
Membership in Mensa is open to persons who have attained a score within the upper two percent of the general population on an approved intelligence test that has been properly administered and supervised. There is no other qualification or disqualification for membership eligibility.

The term "IQ score" is widely used but poorly defined. There are a large number of tests with different scales. The result on one test of 132 can be the same as a score 148 on another test. Some intelligence tests don't use IQ scores at all. Mensa has set a percentile as cutoff to avoid this confusion. Candidates for membership in Mensa must achieve a score at or above the 98th percentile on a standard test of intelligence (a score that is greater than or equal to that achieved by 98 percent of the general population taking the test).

Generally, there are two ways to prove that you qualify for Mensa: either take the Mensa test, or submit a qualifying test score from another test. There are a large number of intelligence tests that are "approved". More information on whether a test you have taken is approved, as well as information on the procedure for taking the Mensa test, can be obtained from the nearest Mensa office. There are no on-line tests that can be used for admission to Mensa. Feel free to contact Mensa for specific details about eligibility.

Should you wish to try our IQ official test which is organized twice a year, we recommend to pass first the Pre-Test available in this site.

Mensa has no other eligibility requirements other than IQ testing. However, many tests are not valid for people under the age of 16 and Mensa does not recognize Tests passed on Internet. You should contact the nearest Mensa office for more information.
If you have never taken an IQ Test yet, the easiest way is to participate to a test organised by Mensa. First you should do the online Pre-Test and you may send the result to:

Mensa Luxembourg
167, route de Trèves
L-2630 Luxembourg/Cents

You will then be contacted by a Mensa representative. Depending on the results of the pre-test you may be interested in take an official Mensa test supervised and corrected by a psychologist. These Tests take place twice a year, generally in April and October, and will cost you €40.

Important:
  • The Pre-Test is free and is not compulsory; you can directly register to the official Mensa Test.
  • The Pre-Test is not valid for Mensa membership but it will give you a good idea of your chances to pass the Official Test. You will also gëtt acquainted with IQ testing.
  • Should you fail your first official test with a gap of less than 5%, you may apply for the following session, free of charge
  • Mensa tests are not the same in the various Countries. Here in Luxembourg we use two different tests, both "culture fair". This means that your Mother Tongue is irrelevant and that it does not require general culture knowledge.
  • Be careful: There is a wide range of IQ Tests on the Internet that provide a false image of IQ Tests. Our Test does not contain any questions implying culture (what is the third King? …), computation (how many possibilities and when …) or language (what is the synonym of …)
